What can I do if my child is not interested in learning the alphabet and can't remember it?

Recently, I often hear the baby parents around me mention such a problem: "The child is not interested in learning the alphabet ah! No matter how many times he copies the letters, he still can't remember them, what can he do?"

      Are you such a parent?

Many parents, when they usually let their children learn the letters of the alphabet, the most common practice is to prepare a number of huge writing books for their children, and then carefully write the 26 letters of the English alphabet at the beginning of each line, and then just tell their children "Copy it, baby, copy each 10 times! There's a reward for finishing! If you don't finish, you're not allowed to watch cartoons!"

I believe that this approach can only lead to two results: either the child does not want to copy and is coerced to do so by the parent, or the child goes ahead and copies what the parent wants in order to get a reward.

If you think about it, either way, the child is not really trying to learn the letters, but is practicing for the sake of practicing. What's the point of doing it this way? The child will not be interested.

So why can't we bring children together to learn and recognize letters through fun activities? Doesn't it smell good?

Many parents may say, "That's all we can do at home, letter learning is boring. Today, I'm going to share with you some small activities that we can usually do at home with our children to learn and practice letters, to help you remove the obstacles in the way of children's letter learning.

Utilizing small teaching aids

First of all, as we are getting more and more familiar with the English language, there are small teaching aids for letters available online, such as letter magnets and letter cards, which we can prepare and bring along with our children to learn.

Alphabet magnets can be attached to the refrigerator or the child's desk, and alphabet cards can be placed next to the child's bed, so that they can easily be used to practice and review.

Using these small teaching aids you can first take the child to recognize the names of each of the 26 letters and their pronunciation. For example, A a, pronounced /æ/ sound, we put it in a word, apple, take the child to practice saying Aa Aa /æ/ /æ/ apple, and so on, take the child to complete the 26 letters of the name and pronunciation of the learning first.

Next, instead of rushing the child to practice writing, we need to take the child to use the alphabet cards to practice recognizing the letters, both upper and lower case.

For example, we can draw two big trees on A4 paper, filled with apples, and on top of these apples write the case of the letters that we have taken the child to learn, and then, the parents say the name or pronunciation of a letter, and the child circles the uppercase and lowercase of the corresponding letter apple. In this way, children not only practice recognizing letters by hearing the sounds, but also practice distinguishing between upper and lower case.

After doing these two steps, we then take your child through a writing exercise.

Writing practice

We can start by copying the letters, or we can prepare some letter outlines for the child to color, and finally we can let the child practice copying the letters in the English grid.

Reading this, I believe that attentive moms and dads may have found that the above steps we are from easy to difficult to let the child to go to the gradual learning. In this way, the child will not be intimidated at first.

     Doing crafts and learning letters

Of course, apart from writing practice, we can also practice the letters of the alphabet by doing crafts with our children.

For example, we can use different stickers to put together the shape of a letter, or we can draw the outline of a letter and turn it into a work of art by decorating it with embellishments. We believe that through these activities, every child will be interested in learning and practicing the letters of the alphabet and will fall in love with it more and more.
