Some things are just wasted, like crayons

Most Frequently Asked Questions

As far as I know, the first drawing materials most kids get are toddler non-toxic crayons.  He drew for a long time and then threw them away, so his obsessive-compulsive child asked for another set...

I guess every family with kids has multiple sets of crayons, but they don't come in sets.

When it comes to crayons, the most common question is this:

How to choose the right crayons for your child?

What about consciously developing your child's drawing skills?

How to play with crayons

Before I get into the seriousness of talking about types of crayons and how to choose them, let me tell you how crayons can be used to waste, no no, play with.

Firstly, we know that Crayon crayons and Oil Pastel sticks are both beeswax products and both can be melted.

Then, we can infer and imagine what it would be like to melt the crayons.

And then, it's brainstorming time.

I'm sure many of you have tried this:

Stick a whole set of crayons on a canvas, blow on it with a hair dryer, and it's a rainbow waterfall. It only takes about five minutes for a set of crayons to blossom into life.

This is the simplest of all wax fusion art, followed by this.

Put tape on the canvas to form irregular closed shapes, and then choose different colours of crayons to blow hot air, ah, different colours in the heat will form a penetration and fusion, appearing like watercolours like a brilliant and fascinating effect.

You can also block out specific shapes and then melt wax for colour, or change the angle to blow in different directions, the ideas are endless.

Or just melt it onto various items, like this

This skill is extremely easy to master and everyone can try it out, adults and children together can come up with something like this, the colours are bright and long lasting and there is no problem of discolouration after drying.

The above crayon hot melt can be used to create on paper or fabric and hang on the wall for decoration after completion; it can also be used on fabrics such as T-shirts, cushion covers and placemats, and it becomes a unique daily living item.

There is another way to play with crayons other than hot melting them, crayon baking. With this method, my mum won't criticise me for wasting crayons.

Put the leftover crayons, single colour or mixed, into a baking mould (don't wash the mould and eat it again, mind you) and put it in the oven. Once melted, take them out to cool and they will be brand new - crayons.

The shapes that come out of the moulds you use make this set of crayons so special for everyday doodling or as a little gift. Moreover, there is no waste!

Of course, as we mentioned earlier, we can still make candles with crayons. Although colouring wax with crayons doesn't work as well as special wax dyes, it's still enough to do candle colouring in a home environment with little ones.

For children over 4 years old, and even for us adults, crayons are far more fun to play with than to draw with.

Types of Crayons

So are crayons still considered drawing materials?

Of course they are!

Types of crayons include:

Wax crayons, oil pastels, pastel crayons.

These are all materials that have a large contact surface and are difficult to draw with. That's why they're especially suitable for the impressionist style of painting. Like this:

For children, crayons and sticks are better suited for large scale application and colour exploration than for shaping. 0-3 year olds are just for doodling and getting to know the basic colours, while 4 year olds and upwards can have fun mixing and layering colours. Therefore, to get a wonderful colour mixing effect, the expression of the oil stick will be much, much better.

Another category: Pastel crayons, which are hard to touch, are divided into two types, Soft Pastel and Hard Pastel, and it is recommended to choose Soft for easier colouring. Pastel crayons have a lot of powder and need to be used on rougher paper to achieve better results. The good thing about pastel crayons is that it is very easy to mix and layer colours, and there are many artists who use pastel crayons to produce amazing works.

It is recommended for children aged 5 years and above to explore and get more interesting and intricate effects, with much better colour expression and shaping than crayons and paint sticks. However, parents should be reminded to try not to use them when their children have rhinitis or colds, as the dust may irritate their delicate nasal mucosa.

With this category of brushes just use regular drawing paper, the kind that has a little tiny texture to the touch. It will be difficult to get the effect of the crayon type of brushstrokes on smooth paper. If you want to get a little creative, you can use specialised crayon drawing paper, which is expensive, has a beautiful texture and gives a great effect. For example, the Canson Powder Crayon Drawing Paper introduced in my video, 15 sheets of A4 size, nearly one hundred soft sister money.

Summaries

To sum up,Crayons can be used for playing, all kinds of brainstorming.

For drawing purpose, oil stick is better than normal crayon; soft chalk crayon is even a good choice for drawing, but be careful of dust allergy.

Use drawing paper that has a little texture and is not so smooth to the touch.

Finally, the same thing can be a tool for completing a piece of work or an object for play and experimentation. Both are ways for children and even adults to explore the outside world and achieve self-expression. So, play with crayons in any way you like.
